Day 12:
Left: Mount St. Helens NP at 11am
Arrived:Lookout State Park, Oceanview, Oregean at 9pm.
States: Washington, Oregean
Distance: 266 miles
We got up early enough and then drove 60 miles into the mountins to get up to Mt. St. Helans. It's last big erruption was 1980 where 1/3 of the mountin blew off but it spits out lava in mini erruptions every day or so. We looked over at it from a mountin opposite cause you need a permit to climb the volcano itself. There was volcanic rock everywhere around, when it exploded they rained down for miles. Good thing we weren't around or you'd be picking lumps of St. Helens out of your face for a year.
Next we drove south west to Portland. It's the first California style (even though it's in Oregean) realy laid back city. There wasn't a huge amount to see but it was a cool place all the same. We stopped there for about 2 and a half hours then headed on to oceanview State Park and stayed there for the night.
Mt. St. Helens in the backround.
Comin into Portland.
