Day 5:

Left: Devil's Lake NP, Wisconson at 1pm.
Arrived: Battle Creek camp ground, South Dakota at about 10pm.
States : Wisconson, Minnisota, South Dekota
Distance : 433 miles

Well,
We've finally hit middle America (eg. the mid west). Interstates have changed from barriered motorways to two lanes in the middle of huge flat expanses. We're currently in South Dekota. It's the state that most people have heard of but absolutely noone has ever been there.
The place w3e stayed in last night was really cool. The lake itself was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen. It's glaciated so sorrounded by mountins on all sides. It has a beach oon one side and the sun reflecting on the (luke warm) water meant it looked absolutely amazing. We passed though La Crosse which is close to the meeting point of Minnisota, Iowa and Wisconson. We stopped for a while on the banks of the Missisipi (on the Minnisota side). It's hard to believe that a few hundred miles down that river New Orleans is in absolute disaster.
We kept drivin then right across Minnisota and on into South Dakota. Once we had the tent set up we went to a local bar and drank the night away with some South Dakotians. The first girl we were introduced to had .. "Ireland!? Where in the hell is that?". Her friend cleared up her confusion by informing her it's in North Dakota. I'm glad that was cleared up..
Thankfully most of the others there knew where it was. They were seriously different people but cool all the same.

Simon managed to go into the wrong lane on one of the toll places so we had to stop, and walk back up a motorway (at night) to tell them we weren't tryin to jump the toll.

Devil's lake, Wisconsin. Despite the name, it was beautiful.

Myself, Kevin and Simon on the bank of the Mississippi.

One of teh South Dakota guy's reg plates that we were drinkin with. He drove home (40 miles) absolutely hammered. What a guy.
