Day 7:
Left: South Fork park at 12.30pm
Arrived: Yellowstone NAtional PArk, Rocky Mountins, Wyoming at 10:40pm
States: Wyoming
Via: Wyoming desert.
Distance: 255 miles
We didn't get yo till 11:30am, packed up pretty quickly and hit the road. After a stop in a seriously hick town (Worland) we drove about 150 miles through desert/agri land towards the rocky mountins. That was quite an experience (the desert that is). The temperature jumped from about 20 degrees in the mountins to 35-37 in teh desert in about an hour. The road through the desert was like you'd see in films, straight and you could see miles and miles ahead of you through the rising heat. We ditched the interstate today in favour of smaller routes so we could see more of the countryside. The road goes through really small 'dust towns', it tells you their population on the way in on signs. One town had an impressivly small population of 10.
We hit the start of the rocky mountins about 90 mins ago and the scenery has been spectacular (cue the reanactment of the scene in Dumb and Dumber - "I expected teh rocky mountins to be a bit rockier than this" - "yeah, that John Denver is really full of shit". We did it already by the way). There was a really strong smell of pine in the foothills of teh rockies, it really filled the air.
The rest of teh drive into the rockies was cool although construction work had torn the roads apart so it was a bumpy ride to say the least.
We got some photos with the sun setting over a big lake with the rockies in the backround. We also drove by a heard of buffulo and some coyotes. We left out no food also as their are loads of bear warnings everywhere. Although we did sample some of the rocky mountin's finest ale - Milwalkee's best, 18 cans for 10 dollars to drink around the fire.
We've drivin over 2600 miles so far, which is the distance from LA to Orlando which we'll be driving on the way back.
